What is Electrostimulation?

Low voltage electric impulses are used to stimulate the muscles via electrodes which are placed on the pet’s skin. Gel is used to ensure the electrodes attach to the skin completely.

There are 2 different modes which can be used- TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation).
TENS stimulates the nerves, which keeps pain signals from reaching the brain. This method is used for osteoarthritis or rehabilitation after orthopedic surgery such a total hip replacement.

EMS causes muscles to contract. This method is used for muscle strengthening, preventing muscle atrophy, increasing local blood circulation, relaxation of muscles and muscle toning. It is also used in pain management and to treat muscle spasms.

What are the benefits?

Increase in muscle strength
Increase of muscular endurance
Increase in speed of muscle contraction
Increase in local blood supply
Promotion of relaxation
Increase in range of movement
Reduction of swelling
